Sunscreen, 3 camera batteries and 17 memory cards. Three phrases to describe a journalist and photographers needs to do a festival.

June 24 of 2017.

Being a huge music fanatic and knowing it all about punk music, Warped Tour is one of the biggest events a fellow friend can attend. Vans Warped Tour is a extremely large concert festival with some of the top bands across the globe, such as Neck Deep, State Champs, and Dance Gavin Dance just to name a few. Warped has been happening for years, all the way back to 1995.

Having the experience to shoot Warped Tour was unreal. So heres the Story.

When you have this huge event coming up, I learned planning and being as prepared as possible is the best think you can do. I found out I was taking photos and interviews for Utahs date at the beginning of June. Having 2 weeks to prepare mentally and emotionally I learned a lot for my experience. At Warped Tour, bands playing tend to overlap times. Usually theres two or three bands playing on different stages at the same time. So you have to be prepared to know, you may not be able to shoot every band you would like. Adding onto that, if bands sign up to interview with you, the time they sign up for is when they are available. Doesn't matter if you are or not, So you do have a larger chance of missing performances and not getting to shoot a band you may want. You defiantly do not want to miss an opportunity to Interview an artist.

In my situation, I had two interviews under my business. One with Sonic Boom Six, and Fit For a King.

Ryan "Tuck" - Fit For a King

An interview at 1 O'Clock and 5 O'Clock. My day was planned of shooting the Right Foot Stage for a majority of the day...American Authors, Memphis May Fire, and Dance Gavin Dance. In this case, I no longer could shoot them all. At first it was a moment from a high to a low. At the time I would rather take photos over interviewing, since I had no experience interviewing bands before. Ultimately, I was nervous to interview them.

As the time slowly approached, I switched between taking photos in the hot sun of Utah, and helping out at A Hope For The Day, and A Voice For the Innocent. Going into the interviews was one of thee most nerve wrecking. Another tip of advice for interviewing. If you know who you're talking to, do lots of research. Thankfully I looked into Fit For a King a decent amount prior to this day. I knew about their music and so on.

In the end, don't skip out on any chance you get. Especially interviews. Journalism is no where near easy at all, and I know I'm not the best at it, but to get better I have to go through rough interviews. Fit For a King has been one of my favorite bands to hang with. In reality, most of us see bands and the artist as performers. But really, they are the most down to earth people. They are your everyday people off the stage. Very social, humorous and understanding.

Wrapping my first blog post up, I ended up taking photos of Neck Deep, Fit For a King, Attila, Our Last Night, I Prevail, Naked Walrus, Stick To Your Guns and a few others you can find on my website.

Thank you Vans Warped Tour for a life experience to never be forgotten. Prepares me for next years tour.
